This 1976 Gran Torino was built in Chicago near the time that the 1,000 S&H units were built, so it's a real close relative. Lewis purchased it in 2002 from a guy in Evansville, Wisconsin, and took it to its new home just across the river from Evansville, Indiana!
Lewis' car, as far as I know, is the first Torino painted specifically to be a replica of the car in the S&H TV show pilot. Lewis studied the DVD and got every detail right. Compared to the stripe on the TV series cars, this one's a little more narrow across the top, a little higher as it runs down the side, and stops short of the front. Lewis is a one-of-a-kind guy, so it's appropriate that he should be the first and only (for now) owner of a S&H Pilot Replica!
Lewis had a 351 Modified engine installed in the Spring of 2006. It's a Jasper crate engine, built right there in Evansville, Indiana. Lewis also upgraded to a 4 barrel 670 cfm Holley carb and had his transmission rebuilt. He says the car runs good and sounds GREAT!
